Roving Caregivers Programme The Roving Caregivers Programme (RCP) is an informal early childhood education programme that seeks to reach children birth to three years of age who do not have access to any formal early childhood education in their communities. The RCP is a safety net for these very young children who are denied any form of early stimulation and are often exposed to inappropriate practices. Early stimulation for children and parenting education for parents form the core of the programme. Learn more
Family Learning Programme The Family Learning programme (FLP) is an attempt at a Caribbean version of family literacy that would extend the goals of the RCP and in addition, support parents’ educational goals. A family literacy programme would also support the goals and objectives of the CCSI and could be linked to matters of child rearing and family support in both home and community contexts. Learn more
Caribbean Internship Project The Caribbean Internship Project (CIP) provides a unique opportunity for students and graduates of tertiary institutions in the Caribbean to explore their talents and capacities in order to grow in terms of self esteem and professionalism and ultimately realize their potential. The CIP can offer the students of regional institutions additional experience, exposure and leadership development while at the same time earning course credits. The contributions of student interns placed throughout the region to the various developmental agencies have already proven to be very valuable. Learn more
Learning Community Programme In its current five-year plan the Caribbean Child Support Initiative, CCSI, will play a pivotal role in creating a Learning Environment for those responsible for early childhood policies and practices. This will be achieved through the development of informal working networks of researchers, studying selected aspects of Caribbean families and their child-rearing practices, with special focus on the early childhood years. The Caribbean Child Support Initiative (CCSI) The Caribbean Child Support Initiative (CCSI) is an early childhood development and family support programme aimed at strengthening the care environment for young children. The CCSI is an intermediary resource programme with a sub-regional thrust that aims to effectively introduce relevant interactive support models for parents and their young children in the Eastern Caribbean, expand the knowledge base on child upbringing practices and create an advocacy movement that would mainstream effective practices. The CCSI was launched in 2002 and completed the first phase of its programme in December 2006 with a second phase from 2007-2011.
