Diego Dish & Carlotta Spoon Diego Dish & Carlotta Spoon

Diego Dish & Carlotta Spoon (audio) came out of a parent’s workshops in Belize, as part of the Storytelling for Early childhood and Parenting Support (STEPS) programme (under Phase 1 of the CCSI programme). When CCSI produced the storybook and audio story this year, it was intended for distribution in the existing RCP countries, two of which have French Creole speakers.

The print and audio story was therefore produced in English and French Creole. However, with the rapid development of the RCP in Belize, it was agreed to have the audio story recorded in the indigenous languages of that country. There is now an audio of the story of “Diego Dish and Carlotta Spoon” in Spanish, Garifuna, and the Maya languages of Ketch and Mopan. The translations were done by Mr. Carmen Mendez (Spanish), Mr. E. Roy Cayetano (Garifuna) and the Julian Cho Society (Ketchi, Mopan). The original French Creole translation was done by Kennedy “Boots” Samuels of St. Lucia.
